Off For The Holidays...

Hello Everyone!

The Holiday season here and it's time for me to take some well deserved time off to unwind, reflect on the past year and plan for the new one. I will start posting again in the year. I will also take this opportunity to revamp the blog and add a few new features for your enjoyment.

Thank you all for your support through 2007. Thanks for reading, thanks for the kind messages and emails.

Mika Wins Big @ World Music Awards

After the disappointment of not winning at the MTV EMA's, Mika more than made up for it by winning four awards at the World Music Awards in Monaco.

His awards were for Best-Selling New Artist, Best-Selling Male Entertainer, Best-Selling Pop/Rock Artist and Best-Selling British Artist.

Unfortunately he was sick with laryngitis and was unable to sing his runaway debut hit 'Grace Kelly', which makes reference to the Prince Albert of Monaco's mother, the Hollywood actress who became princess of the tiny principality upon her marriage in 1956.

Congratulations Mika!

Amy Winehouse Granted US Visa

Embattled pop star Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa allowing her to enter the United States but will still not be making any of her previously scheduled appearances, her publicist confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (November 7).

The "Rehab" singer was set to appear at the mtvU Woodie Awards on Thursday and as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" (which is now in reruns anyway, due to the writers' strike) this weekend.

Amy had previously been refused entry to the US after she, husband Blake Fielder-Civil and stylist Alex Foden were fined for possession of marijuana in Norway during her European tour last month.

Amy will next visit the States in January to kick off her U.S. tour.

Lily Allen Models Underwear Collection

Lily Allen has been signed up as the new face and body of Agent Provocateur lingerie.

The singer - who recently slimmed down from a UK dress size 12 to a size 8 - will follow in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dita Von Teese when her campaign for the company, shot last weekend, is released next spring.

An insider said: "The owners of Agent Provocateur, Joe Corre and Serena Rees, are delighted. They feel her natural look will appeal to a lot of women. She's in amazing shape since she lost the weight, and the pictures of her are absolutely incredible."

Lily - who reportedly received a whopping six-figure sum for the deal - has put her weight loss down to hypnosis.

She said recently: "After the hypnotism I want to go to the gym every day otherwise I feel really bad. I just want to get more toned and healthy. I'm really good at the moment - I've never been happier."

And the 22-year-old singer also credited new boyfriend Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons for helping her shed the weight, giggling: "Me losing weight is down to love. I probably shouldn't say the word love, actually. I'm in 'like'. We like each other a lot!"

But Lily insists she will never take her weight loss to extremes and has vowed to always stay a healthy weight.

She said: "I'll never be a size 0 catwalk model. I have absolutely no interest in that, at all."

Lily Allen Slams Victoria Beckham

Just when I thought Lily Allen had renounced her outspoken ways here she is now trashing Victoria Beckham for being such a media whore.

The 'Smile' singer is sick of seeing the Spice Girl on the cover of all the magazines when she has nothing to promote but herself.

Lily fumed: "It does make me laugh when I see pictures of Victoria Beckham on the front of some magazines. I think, 'You are not promoting anything, you don't need the money, so it's all about being famous.'

"I can never imagine my life being about being famous. I make music, that's what I'm there for. I would never go out and court publicity."

The 22-year-old star also hit out at the notion stars like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan should be role models to their fans.

She added to You magazine: "I don't understand this idea that people like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are regarded as role models for young girls. I mean, just look at them, why would you want to look up to them? What happened to mothers, sisters and aunts as role models?"

Lily has often said that she doesn't want to be seen a role model herself.

Despite her comments, Lily claims she is no longer interested in attacking her fellow celebrities.

The British pop star explained: "I find that as I am happier and happier I can't bring myself to bitch anymore.

"I've gone completely the other way and I think it must be because I am so happy and confident in myself."

I'm sure this won't be the last time we hear of her trashing other artists. That girl just can't keep her mouth shut, and I love her for it.

Amy Winehouse Trashes Hotel Room

Apparently things started to get real crazy for Amy Winehouse even before she went on stage for her disappointing performance at the MTV EMA's this past week.

According to MusicNews.Com the "Rehab" singer - who was in Munich, Germany, for the glitzy awards ceremony last Thursday - totally lost her temper and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to her room by throwing a plate of the pasta at the wall just hours before the big event.

Earlier that day Snoop Dogg who was hosting the show arranged to pay her a visit in her hotel room to meet her. He got there with his entourage just as she was starting to wreck her room.

A source said: "About 90 minutes before the show, Snoop said he wanted to see Amy. When we got there, she was in a bad way. Everyone, including her management, just stood there as she threw spaghetti on the walls.

"She then started kicking the walls and throwing whatever she could get her hands on - even the tables and chairs. Then she started cutting up the rug.

Snoop was just standing there open-mouthed, he couldn't believe what he was seeing."

Amy's people were left speechless by her actions and have no idea what triggered her rage.

Amy, who was in the running for Album of the Year, Most Addictive Track and Best UK and Ireland Act, was snubbed by the public vote.

She did however collect the coveted Artists' Choice prize, voted for by her peers.

Oh Amy, you're so crazy.

A Message From Kylie

There's been rumours that Kylie would be cancelling an upcoming tour in support of her new album and here's what she has to say about it on her official website:

“We would like to make it clear that the report in today’s Daily Mail that Kylie has cancelled a forthcoming tour on doctor’s orders is completely false.

When asked, Kylie has said on numerous occasions that she loves touring and that she might tour again in the near future. There were and are no dates currently confirmed. If and when dates are confirmed they will be announced in the normal manner.

Thus, reports in the Daily Mail that Kylie has cancelled a tour are not true for the simple reason that no tour had been booked.

Kylie has not been told by her doctors that touring “could seriously harm her health”. She did not give the quotes reported in the Mail today. And touring is something that she is still considering for the future. Her health remains excellent and she is in the middle of promoting her new single and album.

Her representatives have asked the Mail to print a prominent apology for today’s highly damaging story.”

Christina Aguilera Confirms Pregnancy

So, Christina Aguilera has finally 'fessed up.

After months of silence, the singer has finally confirmed that she will "enter into mommyhood" next year, according to People.com.

Though her baby bump has been prominent for months, Christina has kept hush hush about expecting her first child with husband Jordan Bratman.

Like, duh! About time.

Sugabes Live @ Swarovski Fashion Rocks 2007

Not only did the Sugababes have the pleasure to close off the Swarovski Fashion Rocks 2007 but they were also introduced by non other than Miss Whitney Houston. And they brought the crowd to their feet. But wait, there's more! They were also joined on stage by another music legend, I won't tell you whom, just watch :o)

Mika Live @ MTV EMAs 2007

Unfortunately MIKA was not successful in his nominations at the MTV EMA last Thursday but he did put in a stellar performance of "Grace Kelly" which you can watch again here.

Amy Winehouse Wins Artists' Choice @ MTV EMAs 2007

Amy Winehouse stumbled through her performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards on Thursday (November 1) shortly after giving a very brief acceptance speech when she won the Artists' Choice honor. The singer who was announced as a last-minute addition to the show when she canceled her planned performance at the mtvU Woodie Awards on November 8 gave a brief "thanks" when she accepted the award, and later appeared to have difficulty remembering the words to her own song and danced unsteadily as she performed.

NEW Music Video: The Spice Girls - Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

Here's the much anticipated video for "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" the new single by The Spice Girls. I wasn't really feeling the song the first time I heard it but the video is definitely changing my mind. I still think they should've done a fast song as a comeback but I forgive them. Check out Geri's abs! And look at Posh! The Girls still got it!

Music Video: Dannii Minogue - Touch Me Like That

Here's the latest video by Dannii Minogue.

I haven't followed her career as much as I should have considering that this is a good dance song and the video's nice too. I'm absolutely shocked by the physical resemblance to her more popular sister, even her voice sounds like Kylie. It must suck to live your sister's shadow. Well at least she's got this song and she's done it on her own.

What do you think of it?

My Review of Britney's Blackout Album

Britney's Blackout album will officially be out on October 30th but I've had the chance to listen to it ahead of its release (thank you Adrian). And let me tell you it's HAWT!!

Some of it is very "Britney" and some of it is quite far from anything she's done before but in this case that's a really good thing. The album is full of Pop goodness with a subtle sense of humour and a really danceable edge throughout.

Overall the album is brilliant, pure Pop, and dare I say it....Oops she's done it again! There, I said it.

Make sure you go out and buy it at your local music store 'cause you'll be hearing these songs everywhere you go.

Here's my track by track review:

1. Gimme More: This of course is the first single from the album. It's been playing all over the clubs and radio stations. It's the Number 1 song on iTunes etc...What else can I say? It's a hot track. Favourite line "It's Britney Bitch" which has now become a classic.

2. Piece Of Me: Nice chilled out song, slower than Gimme More. I like this one 'cause she pokes fun at herself and the attention she gets from the media. Favourite line "They still got pictures of my derriere in the magazine". Well, Brit maybe that's 'cause you don't like to wear underwear in public, maybe, just maybe.

3. Radar: This is one of the leaked songs that have been around for a while. It's an OK song, sounds kinda lazy, not much effort into it. Maybe it's 'cause I've been playing it for a while but I'm just not feeling it. Next song.

4. Break The Ice: Another "nice" song. It's got a danceable beat to it but it's one of those songs that kinda plays in the background while you take a break from the dance floor to go to the bar and refill your drink, know what I mean? Yeah it's one of those. Next!

5. Heaven On Earth: I like this one. It's cute, lovey dovey, very girly and flirtatious. Nice retro beat. Her voice here reminds me a bit of Paris Hilton on "Stars Are Blind".

6. Get Naked (I Got A Plan): It's got a hot beat. Is that her singing at the beginning? Sounds like a dude. I read somewhere that that it's her voice after some extreme manipulation. Sounds kinda creepy at first but really cool midway. I like it.

7. Freak Show: I think she's talking about her personal life on this one. A great rap at the beginning. I like that, she should do it more often. And there's that creepy voice again. What's up with that? Is that really her??

8. Toy Soldier: "Oh I need a soldier!" This is definitely my favourite song of the whole album. I hope it's her next single 'cause this song is hot, hot, hot! Definitely a club hit. I can totally picture Britney with some backup dancers dressed in sexy toy soldier costumes dancing in a line to a River Dance like choreography during her "rapping" bits. Love it!!

9. Hot As Ice: Another song that's been leaked for a while, made me look forward to the other songs. It's catchy, you'll be singing "break it down, break it down..." for a while. Favourite lines "living legend you can look but don't touch" and "To see your foolishness and f**kery and handling my b'ness, holler if you hear me, hey can I get a witness". Hot

10. Ooh Ooh Baby: Love this song too! It's sexy, it's flirtatious, it's slutty, just how I like my Britney. Best lines "I can feel you on my lips, I can feel you deep inside" and "filling me up, filling me up, filling me up...with your love".

11. Perfect Lover: Definitely a club song. Great danceable beat. Favourite line "tick tock, tick, tock, come and get me while I'm hot".

12. Why Should I Be Sad: I'm not big on slow songs but this' one's quite good. Nice sexy beat, very R&B.

So overall the album is great, make sure to go out and support it. Now the question is whether she'll do any promo work for it. I hope she does. I can just imagine the interviews... "So Britney, how do you feel now that everyone around the world has seen your 'booboo' maker?" ...

NEW Song: The Spice Girls - Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

So here's the much anticipated new single by The Spice Girls. It's called "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" and unfortunately it's a bit of a snooze.

It's got that R&B vibe they were going for towards the end of the band a few years ago and we all know how that ended.

Not quite what I was expecting as their comeback single, but then again they're not the sexy Pop divas they were when at their peak.

Wonder what they'll do with this on their new video and on the Victoria Secret show.

Will this be a Number 1 hit? We'll see...

Thanks Jay!

Britney Spears has confirmed the track list for "Blackout," her first studio album in four years. The 12-track set begins with "Gimme More," which holds at No. 3 this week on the Billboard Hot 100.

"Blackout" was moved from a Nov. 13 to an Oct. 30 release earlier this week due to widespread leaks of its songs. Amy Winehouse To Headline mtvU Woodie Awards

Amy Winehouse has signed up to headline the 2007 mtvU Woodie Awards.

The 'Rehab' singer - who has not performed in the US since she pulled out of several high profile events and her American tour this summer due to "health issues" - has agreed to top the bill at New York's Roseland Ballroom on November 8.

The event is much more low profile than the MTV Video Music Awards - for which Amy cancelled her performance - as it only features acts voted for by college students and only students can attend the show. The 24-year-old star - notorious for last minute cancellations and performing while intoxicated - will be joined on the bill by The Academy Is... and Spank Rock.

After a rocky summer in which she married lover Blake Fielder-Civil, was hospitalised following a drugs overdose and was photographed after a bloody brawl with her new husband, Amy has eased back into public life. She most recently performed at the MOBO Awards in London last month, where she won Best UK Female but appeared to forget the lyrics to her songs on stage and was heavily criticised for her performance.

The Woodies will be aired simultaneously on mtvU and mtvU.com on November 15.

Meanwhile, Amy is preparing to begin work on her third studio album with producer Mark Ronson next month.

Justin Timberlake Breaks New Record

Justin Timberlake made chart history in America by becoming the first male solo artist this decade to have six Top 40 hits from one album.

Justin's new song, Until The End Of Time, entered the new Billboard countdown on Thursday (October 11, 07) - giving him six hits from his FutureSex/LoveSounds release.

Superstar Michael Jackson was the last male artist to achieve the feat, when he scored six hits from his Dangerous album in the early 1990s.

Britney Spears - Gimme More Uncensored

Here's the uncensored version of Britney's video for "Gimme More" with more T&A, mostly just more T's, with tiny pieces of tape on them.

I like this version better. It's dirtier, and I like dirty.

Thanks Jay!

NEW Music Video: Fergie - Clumsy

Watch the premiere of Fergie's latest video. This one's for "Clumsy" from her debut album The Dutchess.

Kylie Minogue To Star In Comeback TV Special

Kylie Minogue is to celebrate her musical comeback with an hour-long special on ITV1 in the UK.

The Kylie Show will feature new songs from her forthcoming album, X, mixed with classics from her 20-year career.

Producers promise a unique "visual experience" to accompany every track, in contrast to ITV's concert-style Audience With Kylie Minogue in 2001.

Speaking about the ITV show, Minogue said: "My creative team and I are preparing a fabulous evening with a mixture of old songs, new songs and lots of surprises thrown into the mix as well."

In a statement, ITV said the programme's producers were "pushing the boundaries to create an original and visually breathtaking piece of entertainment".

It is due to air later this year. [source]

The Spice Girls to Play Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Set your TiVo! A rep for The Spice Girls tells Usmagazine.com that the British bombshells will be performing at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show!

The fashion show, which marks the American TV debut of the Spice Girls’ comeback tour, will tape on November 14 at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre, and will air on CBS on December 4 at 10 p.m. Last year's musical guest was superstar Justin Timberlake.

A source tells Us that the Spice Women "are rehearsing for it already. It's going be their big comeback appearance."

NEW Music Video: Kylie Minogue - 2 Hearts

Brand NEW video by the princess of Pop Miz Kylie Minogue. This one's for "2 Hearts" the first single from her upcoming album X.

The single will be officially released on November 5th.

Am I feeling it? Not sure yet, might have to watch it again a few times.

It's definitely different for anything else she's done before but I love her all the same, I'm glad she's back.

Are you feeling it?

NEW Music Video: Robyn - Handle Me

Here's the new video for "Handle Me"by Robyn. This is also another one of my favourite songs from her latest album Robyn. This is the second video for this song, click HERE to watch the previous one.

Sorry!

Sorry for the lack of updates this week. I had a little accident with my keyboard last week where I spilled water all over it and it broke. Just got a new one today and I'm ready to catch you up on the latest music news.

NEW Music Video: Britney Spears - Gimme More

Following her disastruous performance at the MTV VMA's just a few weeks ago, here's Britney's equally disapointing music video for "Gimme More".

Where's the choreography, where are the dancers??

None of that here, just Britney dancing around a stripper pole.

Not impressed.

Featured Album: Dragonette - Galore

Galore the debut album by British/Canadian electropop band Dragonette is finally out in stores and let me tell you it's hot, hot, hot!! The long wait for it was definitely worth it. I had downloaded it in advance and after the first full listen I just had to go out and buy the CD at my local HMV. The album was physically released on September 24th in Europe and Japan, and on September 25th in Canada.

The album contains many of the songs featured on the Dragonette (EP), released independently in 2005 before the band moved to London and signed a deal with Mercury Records. Most of which have been rerecorded and reworked.

New tracks are "Another Day", "Get Lucky", "Black Limousine", "Gold Rush" and "Marvellous".

Notable omissions from the album include the songs "Nemesis", "Sad Eyes", "Titties For Daddy", "Magic Fantastic", "Shock Box" and "Teacher Teacher". "True Believer" is a reworked version of earlier song "Ruthless".

The songs "I Get Around", "True Believer", "Marvellous" and "Competition" all made Popjustice's "Greatest Hits of 2007" list, described as "the most amazing and brilliant pop tunes of 2007."

"I Get Around" was released as a single in April 2007. "Take It Like A Man" was released in July 2007. The third single, "Competition", will be released in October 2007.

Tracks:

  1. I Get Around
  2. Competition
  3. Take It Like a Man
  4. True Believer
  5. Another Day
  6. Get Lucky
  7. Jesus Doesn't Love Me
  8. Black Limousine
  9. Gold Rush
  10. You Please Me
  11. Marvellous (Bonus Track)

Beyonce's Malaysian Concert Cancelled

Beyoncé's planned concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has been canned amid protests by local Muslim groups, Billboard reports.

The groups are reportedly upset that the singer has refused to obey the country's strict dress code for performers, although the November 1 concert's promoter, Pineapple Concert, did not give a reason for the cancellation in a statement issued Friday (September 28). Female performers are not allowed to show skin from the tops of their chests to their knees.

In August, Gwen Stefani's concert in the country was also preceded by protests for the same reason — but she reluctantly abided by the guidelines, saying in a press conference before the show that she had made a "major sacrifice."

Rihanna Defends Britney's MTV Performance

R+B star Rihanna has urged the media to stop criticising Britney Spears ' MTV Video Music Awards performance.

The Umbrella star believes Spears' disastrous stageshow at the Las Vegas ceremony earlier this month was the result of her not having performed much recently coupled with the stress of her ongoing child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Rihanna says, "You can't judge her performance without knowing what was going on with her personally. She had so much pressure for that one performance.

"I'm telling you, it's not easy being on that stage. I performed for a minute and a half, and I was extremely nervous.

"To have the amount of pressure that Britney had? I don't know what I would've done. She did her best, so leave her alone." [source]

Live: Britney Spears - Gimme @ MTV VMA's 2007

Watch this sad, sad performance by Britney Spears at last night's MTV VMA's. I don't know what to say about it other than it was the worse performance ever. What happened? Did she forget how to lipsync? Why didn't she dance properly, was she bloated? She looks bloated. I don't know. I'm very, very disappointed. Your fans were really hoping for a comeback Brit, unfortunately at this rate that will never happen. Sad, sad.

That's right boys and girls, Britney's back with not one but TWO hot tracks from her yet untitled but much anticipated comeback album.

The first song is titled "Gimme More" which is exactly what you'd expect from Britney, Pop all the way. You'll be hearing this song all over the clubs.

The second song is called "Cold As Fire" and that one's a bit unexpected. It's not quite what we're used to hear from Brit but the song grows on you, it's really catchy.

The singer's yet-untitled new album will drop November 13. Gwen Stefani Covers Up For Show In Malaysia

It looks like Gwen Stefani was a good girl after all, just like she promised.

The 37-year-old pop star wowed fans in Muslim-majority Malaysia on Tuesday, performing in costumes that showed almost no skin after Islamic critics claimed that her revealing clothes could corrupt the country's youth.

She burst onto the stage wearing a black leotard under a white short-sleeved shirt and black-and-white striped hot pants suit, with black gloves up to her elbows.
"I am very inspired tonight," Stefani told some 7,000 cheering fans at an indoor stadium.
She changed costumes for every song, remaining fully covered as she belted out tunes such as "The Sweet Escape," "Rich Girl," "Wind it Up" and "Hollaback Girl."

Gwen had promised to dress modestly after the 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students charged that her skimpy outfits and cheeky performances clashed with Islamic values.

Madonna $100 million deal?

Madonna is in talks to quit Warner Music and ink a new record contract valued at around $100 million, it has been claimed.

The pop superstar is understood to be nearing the end of her deal with the label which has been her home for almost 25 years.

As previously reported, she has apparently been approached by Live Nation, who are market leaders in music promotion across the globe.

The deal, covering future touring and releases, is said to be worth £50.5 million ($100 million), marginally outstripping Robbie Williams' contract with EMI in 2002.

Madonna is understood to be nearing completion on the follow-up to "Confessions On A Dancefloor", with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake amongst the collaborators.

Mika Takes a Break

Pop star Mika is to take a break from performing after failing to recover from a recurring ear infection.

The Grace Kelly hitmaker cancelled an appearance at the Big Chill festival in England earlier this month because of the illness, and was forced to pull gigs in Denmark last month due to the same ailment.

But despite wowing the crowds at the V Festival in Staffordshire on Saturday, he has vowed to take some time off after failing to shake the condition.

He says, "I had an ear infection quite a while ago and because we've been on tour for a year there's been very little recovery time, so it just hits me every time I get tired.

"I decided to take some time off after V and hang around London.

"I'm looking forward to being able to rest because the last thing I want to do is cancel gigs."

Kanye West Calls Justin Timberlake His 'Biggest Competition'

Forget 50 Cent — Kanye West considers Justin Timberlake his biggest rival.

In an interview with XXL magazine for its October issue — which hits stands September 11 — Kanye called Justin his "biggest inspiration and biggest competition," adding that "he's the only other person that gets an across-the-board response and respect level — black radio, white radio. If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on. We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day."
